Stephen Asamoah Duah (Young Drummer of the Year 2011)
Stephen Asamoah-Duah is a young drummer from North London. He has be playing drums since the age of two. He started hitting on his mother´s pots and pans until they gave in and bought him a drum kit. He would constantly go at it for hours every day until the neighbours would come and complain and even then he still would not give up.
He started being nurtured by all the musicians at his local church due to the fact that they could see that this young man was buzzing with talent. When Stephen was 5 years old, the drummer at his church turned up late for service and that then gave Stephen the opportunity to play for the praise and worship session. Everyone in the church was amazed at the talent from such a small boy. Since then Stephen started playing at his church regularly until one day he said to himself this is what he wants to do.
Stephen started doing local gigs around the north London area and then began to expand his territories to all around the country. In February 2011, Stephen was crowned UK Young Drummer of the year. This led him on to do interviews with many different magazines and he was also featured in an edition of Rhythm magazine and two issues of Drummer Magazine. Stephen went on to support Gavin Harrison on his UK Clinic tour and in October 2011 he performed at the main stage at the London Drum Show. Stephen is slowly becoming a popular face in the drumming world and has been in contact with a few artists that are well known.
There is no doubt that we will hear a lot about this young man in the future. He has a very bright future ahead of him.
